It is clear that medicine is too vast for anyone to become fully competent in every topic at once – or even at all. More importantly, we must recognize that passing an exam is quite different from acquiring competence for clinical practice.
At this point, prioritization is the key. One may study interstitial lung disease for exams while focusing on asthma for clinical practice. No one has enough time to study all topics comprehensively. So, it is essential to prioritize.
The following list is not meant to be comprehensive or exact. It may vary depending on the city or country in which you practice – particularly for infectious diseases.
These are conditions I have encountered most frequently and believe are particularly important for medical students to focus on and study in greater depth (change the part of infectious diseases based on the epidemiology of your current location).
This is the first version of the list, and it will likely require modifications based on the comments and feedback I receive from you.
